What is Bowen Therapy?
Bowen therapy is a hands-on therapy used for relieving body pain and restoring mobility to injured muscles and joints. It can be best described as a blend of osteopathy, acupressure, and rolling massage. It is fast acting and gives lasting results within an average of 3-7 treatments.
Similar to massage, Bowen is great for relaxation and has the additional benefit of serving as a treatment for all kinds of body aches and pains. It rapidly releases tension from the body leaving a sense of relaxation.
How does Bowen Therapy Work?
Bowen therapy works by retraining the nerves that go to the muscles. When you have an injury or problem with an area of the body, the body likes to tighten the muscles around the area, causing pain to immobilize the area. Normally this allows the area to heal. Sometimes this protective guarding of the body goes overboard and the tightness itself causes more pain which causes more tightness, and a vicious cycle is started.
This is the start of “injuries that have never get better”. Bowen therapy breaks this vicious cycle and allows the healing to stop pain that may have been around for a long time.
Bowen Therapy is the therapy that our Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Cameron Leong uses most frequently for pain management because it is fast acting, long lasting, effective, and very relaxing. It treats many ailments ranging from stress release to repairing chronic injury.
